MARINE DIESEL TECHNICIAN

A marine diesel technician is responsible for repairing diesel engines, transmissions, generators, and all the components that help to make the vessel operate efficiently.

Employee performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment.

Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul/repair work on marine diesel engines, transmissions, and generators, and/or other related marine equipment/systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.
– Establishes and maintains a preventative maintenance program for marine engines and related marine research equipment
– Tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs/adjustments
– Repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves
– Operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair
– Supervises student and temporary employees a minor portion of the employee’s worktime
– Assists in fabrication of equipment
– Prepares order of parts/supplies, purchases parts/supplies
– Write specifications for and recommend purchase of marine equipment
– Maintain a safe and organized work environment to enhance efficiency and safety (ensure cleanliness of all work areas within vessels, workshop areas, tooling, and company vehicles, ensure proper storage of tools and all other materials

REQUIREMENTS:


- Must have a high school diploma and/or general education diploma
– Marine diesel certification is requested, but not required
– Lift 100 lbs. with the assistance of co-worker technician and/or a lifting apparatus.
– Technicians must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on any given project.
– Crawl into confined applications to reach marine components inside of boat
– Maneuver their body 360 degree of engine and its’ components
– Maintain a weight and muscle tone to accomplish the day to day activity of boat confinement
– Individuals in this line of work must typically have good technical skills and manual dexterity. Tasks can require mechanics to be in good physical condition, and problem-solving skills are commonly necessary.
– Must be able to communicate efficiently with coworkers, supervisors, and customers
– Must accommodate more than one project on any given workday/week
– Must complete and submit accurate weekly timesheets
– Must complete and submit accurate field reports in a timely manner
– Must be able to generate parts list for projects assigned
– Must have reliable transportation to/from work
– Must maintain cleanliness of company vehicle/electronic devices

Mechanical aptitude tests are vital in the hiring process as they gauge candidates’ mechanical reasoning, problem-solving, spatial awareness, and safety knowledge. This ensures the employer that those selected possess the skills needed to operate mechanical systems effectively. These assessments help predict job performance, improve hiring accuracy, and promote workplace safety by reducing the risk of errors and accidents.

This test is at no cost to the applicant.

The time and location of the test is determined by the administrator of the test.

If selected to join our team, Precision Power Systems will send you, free of charge, to MTU for advanced training and certification as a marine diesel technician; contingent upon reviewing and signing a prior contract that clearly outlines the terms and commitments involved.
